William Hassett (alias Blennerhassett, b.c1790/4 Ireland, d.11-Jul-1876 Hassett) was a farmer and the foreman of the first sawmill on the Sissaboo River (at what is now Weymouth Falls). He founded the small community of Hassett (near New Tusket, Clare, Digby Co.) which grew up around him, taking its name from him and his farm.
William Hassett was first postmaster at Hassett, his son Byron succeeded him.
