Do you
- want to discover the history of your family or your house, but lack time & resources?
- need help with on-going research?
- need to locate and copy historic or genealogical records held in archives or libraries?
- live too far from such sources to justify the time and expense of performing your own research?
Many genealogical records for the UK and for Ireland can be accessed on-line via the World Wide Web.
However, important classes of record are unavailable in this way, e.g. most parish registers (baptism, marriage, burial), Wills & other probate records, indentures, employment, military, legal & financial records, property deeds & estate documents. These will often require a visit to a church, library, local record office or national Archive, where original manuscripts, transcripts or microfilm/microfiche copies can be viewed. While this aspect of genealogy may be enjoyable, it is time consuming, also expensive in travel and accommodation costs. If you live outside the United Kingdom or Ireland, these costs can be considerable.
As an experienced genealogist based in Gloucestershire, England, I offer a personal research service.
Provide a list of documents needed and I will quote to undertake the work for you - locating source documents, visiting or corresponding with record offices, undertaking searches and photographing/copying/abstracting the results. Where the handwriting on a manuscript is difficult to read, a transcription service is available to transcribe records written in English or in Latin. Results are delivered by post or email, as appropriate. Performing your research this way enables you to study the results in your own home, in your own time, without the inconvenience of travel to distant archives.
For those new to family history a more wide-ranging research service is available, using both internet sources and original manuscripts.
