Ballyseedy Church of Ireland
The present Ballyseedy Church was built c1830, in the "new" churchyard. Ruins of the ancient church may be seen in the old churchyard, adjacent to the new churchyard on its north side.

the Rev. William Blennerhassett,
2nd son of Arthur Blennerhassett
of Ballyseedy,
born 10th July 1800
died 27th April 1860.
These windows are erected by
his son William Blennerhassett.

This appears to refer to the series of stained glass windows on each side of the nave with pairs of brass plates underneath (see below)

The lower plate is misplaced. Margaret died 24-Aug-1876 and left no children. Thomas Blennerhassett was her brother, not her son. When replacing the plates following completion of building renovation work, this plate has been accidentally swapped with another.
The correct plate for this space, inscribed "Erected by her brother Lieut. Col. Francis Barry Blennerhassett of Ballyseedy", is installed in error under the window dedicated to their mother Dorcas Blennerhassett, who d.2-Aug-1822 |

This lower plate is misplaced. Francis Barry Blennerhassett was her son, not her brother. When replacing the plates following completion of building renovation work, this plate has been accidentally swapped with another.
The correct plate for this space, inscribed "Erected by her son Thomas Blennerhassett", is installed in error under the window dedicated to her daughter Margaret Sheldon Blennerhassett, who d.24-Aug-1876

Born 10th October 1803 Died 24th February 1834"
"Died 28th July 1877 aged 63 years."
The lower plate carries an inscription that is almost a duplicate of a plate under the window for Francis Barry Blennerhassett (right) and has no connection with Crosbie Blennerhassett, under whose window it is placed.
This plate on its outward facing side is clearly unfinished; unlike all the other brass plates in the series the edges are not bevelled.
This plate appears to carry an inscription that was rejected. It is possible the correct inscription for this plate may be on the reverse.

Although few of Blennerhassett name now reside within either Ballyseedy townland or Ballyseedy parish, the Irish custom of choosing when practicable to be buried at the home of your forefathers has ensured that to this day many Blennerhassetts continue to find their final resting place here at Ballyseedy.
